Mazen El-Gharabawy: The main reason behind the Award is encouraging the promising young directors in the Arab Republic of Egypt

In order to encourage youth theater and young directors, SITFY -headed by Egyptian professional actor and director Mazen El-Gharabawy- announces the details of the second version of veteran director Essam El-Sayed Award in the fifth edition of SITFY (which is to be held from April 1 to April 7, 2020 in Sharm El-Sheikh).

El-Gharabawy pointed out that the main reason behind the Award is encouraging the promising young directors in the Arab Republic of Egypt "North and South, East and West" who have bright plans for a better future. Additionally, the Award aims at discovering the talents of the promising young directors whose first experiences are one of a kind in the field of theater directing.

Egyptian theater directors are welcome to join the competition, provided that the performances they present do not exceed their third experiences -if they were amateurs- and their first experiences -if they were professionals-. Competitors' age should not exceed (35) years old in April 2020 and they should be Egyptians. Moreover, performances should have creative and distinguished directing features and should not be plagiarized. Additionally, performances should be integrated in terms of acting, directing, decoration and music. Performances related to the issues of societies and communities are preferable. All performances -either independently or governmentally produced- are accepted.

The terms also include: Performances should have been presented in a public screening (and produced in 2019/2020). Theatrical youth in the Arab Republic of Egypt (North and South, East and West) are welcome to join the competition. The committee has the right to withhold prizes if it is proven that no one deserves them. Works are to be submitted via emails, including the CVs of competitors, two high-quality photographs, a copy of passports, mobile phones numbers (to facilitate communication), and declarations implying that the performances do not exceed the third experiences (for amateurs) and the first experiences (for professionals). If the previously-mentioned terms are not applied, prizes are to be cancelled and SITFY's higher committee is to take all legal procedures against who does not apply the terms (and he/she will be held responsible for all legal and literary liabilities). Applications are to be submitted via SITFY's emails and are to be sorted and assessed by a specialized committee. The committee will start its work as soon as the submission is closed. Directors wishing to join the competition must submit their works via SITFY's emails, including declarations, performances' links, technical and media files, and high-quality DVDs. SITFY's higher committee will only accept performances which are fairly assessed according to the terms of Watching and Selection Committee. The terms of the competition also include: Competitors should not have participated in other competitions by the same performances. The deadline for accepting applications is January 25, 2020. Prizes are worth 5 thousand EGP (first place), 3 thousand EGP (second place), and 2 thousand EGP (third place).

Most notably, the Egyptian veteran actress, Samiha Ayoub, has been appointed the honorary president of SITFY, the veteran actor, Mohamed Sobhi, head of the higher committee of SITFY, and Egyptian actor Tarek Sabri, the executive director.
